Last week we received the sad news that Fr Phil McCormack passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning at Fairway Rise Aged Care, Lindisfarne. Fr Phil was very well loved, respected and known to so many along the North West. He is well known in our community as he would often visit St Brigid's School when he was Parish Priest of Wynyard. Fr Phil had a significant impact in our community, celebrating many baptisms, weddings, and funerals. His greatest gift was his easy going way of life and simply dropping into so many families around Wynyard. He was also well known for his very short homilies and easy-going pastoral approach to so many situations.
Fr Phil worked as a priest at the Cathedral, Cygnet, Devonport, Invermay, Rosebery, Queenstown, Railton-Latrobe, Wynyard, and towards the end of his active career, he was Parish Priest of Smithton and Stanley. He was ordained a priest 30 Jul 1971 by Archbishop Guilford Young, and in 2021 he celebrated his Golden Jubilee of Priesthood, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Devonport. Fr Phil will be remembered as a faithful priest and loved by many.
Family Mass
Thank you to all of our families and staff who attended the Family Mass at St Brigid's Church on Saturday night. It was great to see many families in attendance as we came together to celebrate Mass.
Supporting Project Compassion at SBW
As part of Lent, SBW is raising funds for CARITAS for Project Compassion. We have donation boxes in classrooms and any donations are greatly appreciated.
In Week 10, students are invited to participate in the 'Guess the Number of Easter Eggs in the Jar' competition. The competition will be open Monday - Thursday before school from 8:30-8:45am. Guesses are 50 cents each, or 3 for $1. The winner will be the person who guesses correctly or the closest to. If multiple guesses match, we will put names in a hat and draw one out.
On Thursday of Week 10 (April 10) we will be having a Casual Clothes Day for a gold coin donation. Students may choose to wear clothes or acessories that are related to the colours of CARITAS and Project Compassion.
